‘Legends’ Over 65’s: Exercise Classes
Strength training for seniors is the #1 exercise intervention for treating a wide variety of conditions including arthritis, balance problems, cardiovascular disease, Parkinsons disease and dementia.
OVERVIEW
Why Resistance Strength Exercises?
Recent research has shown that progressive resistance training is one of the most effective ways to decrease your risk of falls, osteoporosis and cardiovascular disease.
Approximately 33% of people over the age of 65 will have a fall each year. Resistance-based exercise has been shown to reduce the incidence of falls by 13% to 40% if performed at least 2-3 times per week (Gillespie et al, 2012). Resistance training has also been shown to reduce the severity of symptoms of conditions including Arthritis, Diabetes, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s and Dementia.
This class will challenge your strength, balance and control whilst giving you a functional workout in a friendly environment. Not only will you strengthen your muscles, but you will increase your endurance, reaction times and muscle tone.

Please Note
If you are new to the clinic, you will require a 40-minute Initial Assessment with a physiotherapist so we can go over your medical and injury history and assess your current strength and balance levels. We advise that you then have a 20-minute reassessment every 12 weeks to ensure your strength and balance is improving.
